CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK IN THE TOOWOOMBA DIOCESE - BISHOP'S INSERVICE DAYS

Bishop Robert McGuckin - Bishop of the Toowoomba Diocese

Queensland Catholic Education Week is a time for the 306 Catholic school communities across the state to celebrate Catholic education, its many achievements and substantial contribution to the broader community.

A feature of Catholic Education Week in the Toowoomba Diocese is the annual Bishop’s Inservice Days which provide an important occasion for staff to gather, to celebrate, reflect and learn together.

This year’s keynote speaker was Professor Br David Hall who spoke to the topic of Catholic schools in turbulent times. Br David is well grounded in the daily challenges of school life and his keynote address emphasized the significance and meaning attached to what we do. Br David highlighted the multi-faceted and counter-cultural nature of our work in bringing a life-giving message of hope and liberation to students who live in a largely secular world.

The days are powerful, unifying events for the Diocese and Toowoomba Catholic Schools and a public affirmation of the highly regarded contribution of Catholic education to the life and vitality of communities in Toowoomba and further west. “It is a privilege to experience the high staff morale and firm commitment to our mission which is such a distinctive feature of our organization” said Executive Director: Catholic Schools, Dr Pat Coughlan.
