Helpful information

  • It is not possible to save a partially completed application form and return to it at a later date.  Application forms must be completed with all attachments in one sitting.
  • If you have more than one document to upload per question the documents will need to be combined and saved as a single PDF document and uploaded as one file. For example if you have a Bachelor of Science and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education, these two certificates will need to be saved as one PDF document before uploading in response to the certified copy of qualifications question.

Accreditation to teach in a Catholic school is a professional requirement of all teachers in Catholic schools in Queensland. Once employed, teachers in Catholic schools are required to complete 25 hours of approved Professional Development activities of a religious nature over 5-year periods of employment to meet this requirement.


Accreditation to Teach Religion in a Catholic School is a professional requirement of teachers of Religion in Catholic schools in Queensland. This applies to all primary class teachers and to secondary teachers required to teach a Religion subject. Unless first employed in a Catholic school before 27 April 1996, teachers initially gain Accreditation to Teach Religion in a Catholic School by completing four semester units of approved courses at tertiary level drawn from one or more of the following areas: Religion studies; Christian leadership; theology; scripture; Religious Education; liturgy; spirituality or similar. Until they have done this, teachers hold Interim Accreditation to Teach Religion in a Catholic School. Diocese of Toowoomba Catholic Schools (TCS) suggests a number of study pathways and scholarships to support teachers to gain this accreditation. TCS encourages teachers seeking to meet the four units of study requirement to do so by initially engaging in the Religious Education Accreditation Program (REAP) Inservice. They would then follow this with the study of three semester units from the Australian Catholic University (ACU) or from Broken Bay Institute – The Australian Institute of Theological Education (BBI-TAITE). Teachers then renew their Accreditation to Teach Religion in a Catholic School by completing 50 hours of approved Professional Development activities in designated five-year periods. This 50 hours may include 25 hours of activities suitable for maintaining accreditation to teach in a Catholic school (above). The additional 25 hours would usually have a specific Religion curriculum content/pedagogy dimension.

Statement(s) of service(s) allow you to be classified and paid correctly. Statement(s) of service(s) should be a certified copy, be provided on the official letterhead of the authority responsible for the school or institution and it must be signed and dated by the employer or an authorised person; specify the position held; specify the period of employment; specify the nature of the employment, eg full time, part time; detail the total number of casual hours paid for the period of employment; specify whether any leave without pay was taken and the period when this leave without pay occurred. If no periods of leave without pay were taken, the statement(s) must show that 'no leave without pay was taken'. Referee details

This must be your current or most recent Principal. Please include name, school, phone number and email details which your referee can be contacted on during business hours. Information provided by your referees is to be used solely in connection with your application for employment. If details for your current/most recent Principal are not provided your application will not progress.
An additional professional referee might be your Deputy Principal, Head of Department or someone else who can offer comment on your teaching abilities. A Religious referee could be your Parish Priest, Minister, Chaplain, a staff member of a Catholic school, who can offer comment on your personal faith, Christian witness and understanding of Catholicism.
